ORATIUS (65-8 B.C.). Opera. London: Iohannes Pine, 1733-1737.
Richly decorated red morocco copy (in need of restoration) of the first run of the first edition (as can be seen from the inscription on p. 108 of vol. II: the medallion bears the erroneous "post est", instead of the correct "potest") of the Works of Horace with the fine illustrations by John Pine; the rich iconographic apparatus consists not only of the plates and frontispieces but also of over 300 engraved illustrations with clear archaeological inspiration.
2 volumes, 8vo, (230 x 140mm). Two engraved frontispieces with classical figures, 7 engraved plates outside the text, engraved head-pieces, and tail-pieces, numerous illustrations, green silk place-marker. Binding in red morocco, richly gilt borders, spine decorated in gilt with raised bands, gilt edges, marbled endpapers (plate of the first volume detached, faults at joints and some wear). (2
