Luca Melegati
Luca Melegati Strada, Director of Wannenes’ Milan office and head of the auction house’s Ceramics and Glasses department since 2008, has been a consultant and expert in ceramics and decorative arts for major auction houses in Italy, most recently for Sotheby’s Italia from 2000 to 2008. For thirty years he has been active in the art world as a lecturer, curator of thematic exhibitions, essay writer and journalist.
He has to his credit the management of some of the most interesting private collections of majolica and porcelain at auction in recent years, such as the Pezzi collection or that of Guido Tissi, as well as the sale of iconic ensembles such as the large Minghetti service made for the Duke of Montpensier.
“L’Arte del Vasajo’ in October 2011 was judged the most important maiolica auction held in Italy in the last twenty years and the adjudication of two important allegorical albarellos with animal decorations, attributable to Mastro Domenico or to a kiln in Casteldurante, for €442,000 confirmed the department’s international standing. Over the years, the dispersion of other relevant collections followed, among them the collection of Grazia Biscontini Ugolini, a great lady of Italian ceramics.
The last thematic sale in 2022, ‘The Art of Ceramics’, presented an interesting and innovative excursus on majolica and porcelain from the 16th to the 20th century.

Francesco Marchiaro
A graduate in Cultural Heritage from the University of Turin and in Art History from the Catholic University of Milan, with a thesis on the Lombard cabinet-maker Giuseppe Maggiolini, Francesco Marchiaro began his activity in the art world by collaborating on the catalogue of the exhibition dedicated to ‘The Porcelain of the Dukes of Parma’, held in the Royal Palace of Colorno in 2021. Since March 2022, he has held the position of Junior Specialist in the Furniture, Sculptures and Art Objects and the Ceramics and Glassware departments of Wannenes Auction Houses.
