Anatole Nikolaïevitch Demidoff né à Saint-Pétersbourg (Russie) le 5 avril 1812 (17 avril 1812 dans le calendrier grégorien) et mort à Paris le 29 avril 1870 est un diplomate, industriel, mécène et le premier prince de San Donato.
Il a été l'un des premiers admirateurs de l'art romantique naissant et a soutenu des peintres français et russes (Karl Briullov, Paul Delaroche, Eugène Delacroix, Eugène Lami et Auguste Raffet) ; il a également été l'un des meilleurs clients des joailliers Chaumet à Paris.
En 1840, il épouse la princesse Matilda Bonaparte, fille du roi Jérôme Bonaparte, déjà son parrain et invité de sa famille.
L'union fut orageuse et ne dura que six ans, pendant lesquels ils n'eurent pas d'enfants. Anatole a toujours été un passionné de Napoléon et, en 1851, il a acheté la villa napoléonienne de San Martino sur l'île d'Elbe et y a construit un musée. Sous la villa, il a fait construire une grande salle d'exposition de style néoclassique, aujourd'hui appelée Galerie Demidoff.

Demidoff was one of the first connoisseurs to appreciate the growing Romantic art movement and was an ardent supporter of the French and Russian painters (Karl Briullov, Paul Delaroche, Eugène Delacroix, Eugène Lami e Auguste Raffet). He was also one of the top clients of renowned Parisian jeweller ; Chaumet
He was a great industrialist, under whose management business levels grew exponentially, his custom was to send the managers of his factories to be trained in England and France, where corporate and capitalist culture was more developed.
In 1840 he married Princess Matilde Bonaparte, daughter of King Girolamo Bonaparte ; already his godfather. The union was stormy and lasted only six years, during which time they had no children. Anatoly was always a Napoleonic devotee and in 1851 he bought the Napoleonic Villa of San Martino on the Island of Elba and built a museum there. Under the villa he erected a large exhibition hall in the Neo-classical style, today called the Demidoff Gallery.
