Incomplete copy but genuine of the first edition of this scarce illustrated work on automata, horology and hydraulics, adapted from "Les raisons des force mouvantes avec diverses machines" printed in Frankfurt in 1615. Caus was an architect and court engineer in Heidelberg, pioneering the construction of life-size automata, many of which are illustrated here such as a fire engine, organs, and water clocks.
