MARIA TERESA OF AUSTRIA (1717-1780). Autograph signature on document with Christmas greetings to Cardinal De Bernis. Vienna: 22 December, 1764.
Interesting letter containing Christmas greetings with the Empress of Austria's autograph signature sent to Fran?ois-Joachim de Pierre, Cardinal de Bernis (1715-1794), an important figure in European diplomacy, a favourite of the House of Austria, and the architect of the so-called "reversal of alliances" that led, with the Treaty of Versailles of 1756, to the alliance of France with Austria in an anti-Prussian key. As a result of his diplomatic successes, he was appointed French Foreign Minister in 1757. Also included is a letter from Emperor Franz Joseph addressed to cardinal Joseph Alimonda.
