In 1972, the 911 Carrera RS (RennSport) was proposed, inspired by a 2,687 cm³ (210 hp) mechanical injection version of the classic 6-cylinder boxer and lightened body, with aluminium bonnets and doors and thinned non-structural sheets. The Carrera RS was available in a Touring version with an interior similar to that of the 911 S and Sport, with a simplified interior design to further reduce weight, it was recognisable by the famous "ducktail" rear wing, the adhesive strips on the side and the rims (alloy) to match the strips. It was only available in the coupé version, the performance was remarkable, with a weight of 980 kg the 0-100 km/h shot was in just 5.9 seconds for a top speed of 237 km/h.
But the real gem for fans all over the world came with the new range that included the standard 911 (150 hp), the 911 S (177 hp) but above all the 911 Carrera (210 hp) all available in two versions of coupé body and number targa. In order to underline its strongly sporty character, this last version boasted the term "Carrera" in homage to the American Carrera. It maintained the bodywork of the other 911s, without any lightening or aesthetic variations, while the engine was the same as the Carrera RS of the previous series (pre-bumper), an exciting engine that allowed the 911 Carrera 2.7 to go from 0-100 km/h in just 6.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 239 km/h. The 911 Carrera 2.7 was only sold on the European market and in South Africa, but not in the United States. Its innate sportsmanship, performance and rarity made the 911 Carrera 2.7 an extremely popular and highly sought after car by collectors worldwide.
The car offered here is a magnificent and very rare example of the Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7, with a 1974 plate in its original colour Metallic Silver (cod. 936) and with its original black leatherette interior (matching colour). The car is one of the few 2.7 Carreras delivered in Italy in 1974 (proven by the right chronological excerpt of the ACI). It is provided with its original equipment engine (matching number) the legendary 210 hp 2.7 with mechanical injection of the classic 6-cylinder boxer, exactly the same engine mounted on the legendary 911 Carrera RS of 1972, with a small difference on the gearbox. The Carrera road version, in fact, has no oil pump on the gearbox, for the rest is the same engine as the Carrera RS (also as serial numbers). This model was registered in Varese in 1974 and was owned by the same owner for 7 years. In 1981, it changed owner and province (from Varese it passed to Milan where it was re-registered and where it remained until today for 39 years). The car is equipped with its original service documents that includes all the checks that it has made at the official Porsche workshops in Italy. This fantastic car is equipped with its original 7.5" Fuchs rims, and has undergone a very light conservative restoration on the bodywork, with a light veil of paint to eliminate the annoying dots caused by the small stones on our roads and to further protect its original paint. From the mechanical point of view, recently for express will of the owner, all the suspension elements and brakes have been checked to ensure that the car was in impeccable condition. The owner himself wanted his trusted mechanic to open the engine to check that everything was in perfect order and to close it by changing all the necessary linings (all these interventions are widely documented by relevant invoices). The interior is absolutely original and preserved in all respects. The seats were cleaned with detailing product and nothing else. Finding an original 1974 Porsche 2.7 Carrera Targa is a real rarity in collecting vintage cars. Finding one with only 54,137 km in 46 years of life and Italian plates is an even bigger rarity. This unique car is destined to become a true collector's unicorn in a short time.
