GRANDE FIGURA DI GUANYIN IN 'BLANC-DE-CHINE', CINA, DINASTIA QING, DI SU XUEJIN (1869-1919), TARDO XIX SECOLO
A LARGE FINELY MODELED DEHUA FIGURE OF GUANYIN, CHINA, QING DYNASTY, BY SU XUEJIN
(1869-1919) LATE 19TH CENTURY
the Bodhisattva is finely modelled shown standing with foot forward and leaning slightly back, in a graceful pose she has a rounded face with downcast eyes and delicate features set in a benevolent and serene expression, a hairpin secure the high chignon, her body gently swayed to one side as she turns her head away. The stem of a lotus flower is held between her hands positioned above the other and emerging from the sleeves, dressed in along flowing robes swept to one side in a celestial wind, and open at the chest revealing a beaded necklace. The back an impressed four character sealmark Boji Yuren virtue extends to all, even fishermen. This mark is used by the artist Su Xuejin (1869-1919)*; a small glaze flake to the robe sleeves close to the right arm, a small chip at the bottom of the swept fold-dress and two faring cracks on the base which of one going up
