An ex dono auctoris copy; Michel de Marolles, an abbot and collector, amassed 123,000 prints, which were purchased in 1667 by Colbert for Louis XIV (for the conspicuous sum of 28,000 livres) to form the basis of the print cabinet of the Bibliothéque royale.Folio, (350 x 228mm). Illustrated frontispiece, portrait of De Marolles and Virgil in text, 21 full-page plates in text, woodcut initials, head-pieces and tail-pieces (the folded map is missing, marginal restoration to the frontispiece, small marginal wormtrack to the first few leaves). Contemporary full gilt leather binding, spine gilt, title gilt to spine (weak hinges, some wear). Provenance: Endpapers inscribed A. Dubois 1 Aprilis 1650 ex dono [...] autoris'; old noble stamp to title-page. (1)
