[AVICENNA] DELLA TORRE, Giacomo (1360-1414). Super primus Avicenne...in primum Avicenne Canonem expositio. Venice: Lucantonio Giunta, 1520.
Commentary on Avicenna in a contemporary binding, with numerous annotations in a single hand. Giacomo della Torre, a physician and jurist originally from Forlì, taught at several universities in northern Italy, including Padua, where his influence was firmly established by two decrees (dated 1465 and 1531) that made it obligatory for professors of medicine to follow his methods and the order of the topics he proposed in reading Galen.
Folio, (320 x 220 mm). Text in two columns, woodcut initials, bound with final blank (browning and wormholes with loss of a few letters to the first 2-3 and final gatherings). Beautiful contemporary half-leather binding over wooden boards with contemporary clasps and brass fasteners, manuscript title to second plate (light wear and some small wormholes).
