Created in response to pressing demands from customers who wanted a motorbike capable of countering the overwhelming power of Japanese four-cylinder machines, the R 100 RS was a revolutionary motorbike. Introduced in 1976, it 'cleared the way' for the use of fairings for touring motorbikes, which was immediately copied by the Japanese industry. The streamlined styling born from the pen of Hans A. Muth was centred around the idea of the 'integral cockpit', a single fairing that also included on-board instrumentation. Made of synthetic material, it was developed in Pininfarina's wind tunnel. The 70 horsepower available, combined with the effective aerodynamic protection, made the R100RS a true '200km/h armchair', silent and extremely fast. For its innovative styling, the R100 RS entered motorcycling history in its own right.
This 1976 example is among the first ones built. Never restored and equipped with its Krauser bags, it was imported to Italy a few years ago by the depositor. Functioning and with Dutch papers, it is ready for registration and to continue its life on the roads of Europe.
