It was produced in 4 different series and for 28 years it won all enthusiasts over. A public competition was held to choose the name. The prize was a model of the new car. The name Duetto won, but the name was used only for the first 190 examples, due to the homonymy with a famous snack of the time that obtained the exclusive use of the name. Despite this, the name remained so deeply rooted in the language of enthusiasts that all subsequent versions of this model were improperly identified as Duetto. .
The third series of the Alfa Romeo Duetto Spider was called the Aerodinamica - the aerodynamic- and was produced from 1983 onwards. The bodywork underwent a substantial retouching of the lines. The bumpers became more wraparound and the “tail” was “cut”, a feature inherited from the second series. The rear headlights were also modified and a black synthetic spoiler was applied. The interior had a briarwood Hellebore steering wheel, the instrument panel with separate 'eyelids' housed the rev counter and odometer. In the central part of the dashboard the indicators of gasoline, oil pressure and water temperature were added. In the central tunnel under the 5-speed gearbox a digital clock and the various controls of the four turn signals were located as well as the rear fog lights and the ashtray. .
The model proposed in the auction is powered by a 1,600 cc engine with 104 hp 5-speed manual transmission. It is painted in the elegant light metallic grey cod.Ar 727 and features precious grey leather interior, briarwood steering wheel and its iconic original rims. At the rear, the spoiler in synthetic material has been replaced by a more elegant and refined spoiler in body colour, which gives it more charm without sacrificing its functional aspect. The car was registered for the first time in Rome in 1983 and since then it has covered only 115,102 km in 37 years. It has never undergone restoration, but only minor routine maintenance work, and it looks very well preserved. .
