La MK2, nota anche come Mark II autovettura di lusso fu prodotta per 8 anni, dalla fine del 1959 al 1967. La MK2 era una vettura veloce, spaziosa e dalla linea gradevole e seguiva quindi la massima più nota di Sir William Lyons: "grace, pace and space" (cioè "grazia, andatura e spazio") Era la diretta evoluzione della prima serie Mark I, ed era disponibile con motorizzazioni da 2.4L, 3.4L e 3.8L. Tutti e tre erano propulsori della Jaguar XK e, per i mercati al di fuori di quello statunitense, gli esemplari che montavano i motori da 3,4 L erano equipaggiati con due carburatori SU.
Sulla MK II la carreggiata posteriore venne maggiorata e la geometria della sospensione anteriore fu riorganizzata nell'ottica di elevare il centro di rollio. Venne mantenuto, tuttavia il ponte rigido posteriore con sospensioni a balestra. I freni divennero a disco su tutte le ruote, mentre il cambio manuale, sempre a 4 rapporti con overdrive, era completamente nuovo (e di produzione Jaguar con, fino al 1964, la prima velocità non sincronizzata). La MK2 acquisì una reputazione di modello adatto ad essere utilizzato tra i criminali e le forze dell'ordine: fu molto popolare tra i malviventi britannici, che la utilizzavano per le fughe, ma fu anche celebre tra la Polizia che l'adoperava per pattugliare le autostrade. La MK2 è anche famosa per essere stata utilizzata dal protagonista nella serie TV Ispettore Morse.
L'esemplare presentato è appartenente a una collezione di varie Jaguar ed è rimasta in disuso per alcuni anni, il motore è funzionante e gira bene ma viene considerato da revisionare integralmente come l'impianto frenante. La carrozzeria in buono stato presenta delle piccole imperfezioni nelle fiancate dovute all'inutilizzo. Gli interni in pelle conservata mantengono un ottimo fascino. Da facile ripristino, un auto di sicura rivalutazione.
The MK2, also known as the Mark II luxury car was produced for eight years, from late 1959 to 1967. The MK2 was a fast, spacious and attractively styled car and thus followed Sir William Lyons' best-known maxim: "grace, pace and space". It was a direct evolution of the first Mark I series, and was available with 2.4L, 3.4L and 3.8L engines. All three were Jaguar XK powerplants and, for markets outside the US, examples with the 3.4L engines were equipped with two SU carburettors.
On the MK II, the rear track width was increased and the front suspension geometry was reorganised with a view to raising the roll centre. The rigid rear axle with leaf spring suspension was retained, however. The brakes became all-wheel discs, while the manual gearbox, still a 4-speed with overdrive, was completely new (and Jaguar-made with, until 1964, the first non-synchronised speed). The MK2 acquired a reputation as a model suitable for use among criminals and the police: it was very popular with British criminals, who used it for getaways, but was also famous among the police, who used it to patrol motorways. The MK2 is also famous for being used by the main character in the TV series Inspector Morse.
The car presented here is part of a collection of various Jaguars and has been out of use for a few years. The engine is working and runs well but is considered in need of a complete overhaul, as is the braking system. The bodywork in good condition has some minor imperfections in the sides due to disuse. The preserved leather interior retains an excellent charm. Easy to restore, a car of certain appreciation.
