The MK2, also known as the Mark II luxury car was produced for eight years, from late 1959 to 1967. The MK2 was a fast, spacious and attractively styled car and thus followed Sir William Lyons' best-known maxim: "grace, pace and space". It was a direct evolution of the first Mark I series, and was available with 2.4L, 3.4L and 3.8L engines. All three were powerplants from the Jaguar XK, but the larger 3.781 cm³ (3.8L, 220 hp) engine was similar to the 3.8L engine used on the E-Type, as it shared components such as the cylinder block, crankshaft, connecting rods and pistons. The brakes became all-wheel discs, while the manual gearbox, also a 4-speed with overdrive, was completely new (and Jaguar-made with, until 1964, the first non-synchronised speed). The 3.8-litre manual versions had a self-locking differential as standard. The MK2 acquired a reputation as a model suitable for use among criminals and the police: it was popular with British criminals, who used it for getaways, but was also famous among the police, who used it to patrol motorways. The MK2 is also famous for being used by the main character in the TV series Inspector Morse.
The splendid 220hp Jaguar MK II 3.8 that we are presenting here certainly has a lot to tell. The owner of this magnificent object wanted to enhance its sporting qualities by subjecting it to a scrupulous regeneration of all its mechanical organs. The mechanics are in a state of absolute excellence, with documented invoices for over € 22,000 between parts and specialised labour, to be more than certain that the car can tackle any route, from the softest gear to the grittiest track, having never raced it now presents itself in like-new condition. The bodywork and interior are in good overall condition and could be pleasantly maintained in their original state. The classic sports car par excellence at the right compromise of sportiness and elegance.
