Incomplete copy of these three early editions by Montano, prolific engraver and connoisseur of ancient art. His work, published posthumously by his Roman pupil and architect Giovanni Battista Soria (1581-1651), had great influence throughout Europe until the 18th century, and was known and appreciated by his contemporaries such as Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Pietro da Cortona, and Francesco Borromini. 3 works in one volume, folio, (375 x 250 mm). First work: engraved title-page and dedication, portrait of Montana, portrait of Soria, 64 numbered plates (of 66, missing 26 and 31, title page and a few plates with some stains, some slightly browned). Second work: engraved title page, engraved dedication, portrait of Montana, portrait of Soria, 27 numbered plates (of 28, the last missing, some stains and light browning). Third work: engraved title-page, engraved dedication, 40 numbered plates (missing portrait of Montana and Soria, restored tear to title-page, two plates with reinforcement to outer margin, light but diffuse water stains to upper margin, some spotting). Contemporary binding with gilt decorated leather spine (unbound, some wear). Provenance: di me Andrea Vecchi earlier ownership inscription to endpapers.
