An amateur's copy, fully remargined in the 19th century to increase its size, of this scarce first and only edition of the work on the noble families of Genoa dedicated to Prince Andrea Doria and fully illustrated by Jerome David. The elaborate heraldic plates depict the arms of the dynasties that were admitted to the government of the Republic, divided into their respective '28 alberghi', i.e. aggregations of several noble families that were responsible for the government of the municipality. This copy is also enriched with some handwritten notes listing the noble Genoese families belonging to the Libro d'Oro.Folio, (528 x 385 mm). Portrait of the author, allegorical half-title with pieces of armour, dedicatory plate within architectural frame, title page with typographical indications within cartouche and bird's-eye view of the city of Genoa, unnumbered plate depicting the arms of Genoa, unnumbered plate depicting St. George fighting the dragon, 30 plates numbered I-XXIX (with repetition in the numbering of I), 4 index leaves, 3 handwritten leaves from the mid-19th century showing the names of the families registered in the Libro d'Oro of the Nobility of Genoa as of 1797; all leaves remargined at the end of the 19th century. (a few tears skillfully restored at the time, slight browning to the index leaves). Late 19th century full vellum binding with gilt title on boards and spine, gilt frames (some wear and minor chipping to spine). (1)
