BRASINI, Armando (1879-1965). Studio di scenografia per la visita di stato di Hitler a Roma del Maggio 1938. [1938].
Important document of Armando Brasini's eclectic and monumental architecture and the ephemeral apparatus created for Adolf Hitler's state visit to Rome in May 1938, which tied fascist Italy's destiny to that of Nazi Germany. The scenography is similar to the one actually realised on Via dei Fori Imperiali and is an expression of the architect's monumentalism and the influence exerted on him by German architect Albert Speer. Armando Brasini's buildings can still be seen in Rome and are distinguished not only by their exaggerated monumentality, but also by their scenographic research at the expense of functionality, making him a sui generis architect of the Italian regime; among his works are the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Piazza Euclide, the entrance to the Vittoriano, the Flaminio Bridge, Villa Brasini and the unrealised Mole Littoria, architectures that exaggerate Roman Baroque forms and creas them to the monumentality of the regime.Drawing, (575 x 1135mm) Frame. Pencil on glossy paper (some wear). Within modern frame. Provenance: donated by the nephew of the architect Brasini to the family of the current owner. (1)
