AN IMPORTANT AND VERY RARE PAINTING ON SILK HANGING SCROLL, CHINA, EARLY MING DYNASTY (1368-1644) OR EARLIER DYNASTY
The painting is on silk and applied on paper. Painted in ink and colour on silk delightfully decorated with a continuous scene of figures in a large complex palace compound with a fenced garden with shrubs and flowers bushes, rocks and pine trees hiding part of the roofs with their leafy branches. The scene showing several maids servant engaged in their own activities, while some court ladies elegantly dressed engaged in leisurely pursuits meanwhile a musician lady is playing a wood guqin instrument to a couple close by within pavilions and garden beautifully settings and in the distance a mountainous landscape. As is common for a painting of this age, the surface with wears and small losses, folds and stains, as visible from the images.
