AN IMPORTANT LARGE AND FINELY MODELLED DEHUA FIGURE OF GUANYIN, CHINA, 17TH CENTURY, HE CHAOZONG WORKSHOP CIRCA 1610-1640

The large figure of Bodhisattva is finely and deeply carved, shown standing with her foot forward on a overturned jar from which emerges a large lotus bloom, amongst swirling waves. A graceful pose with a oval face with downcast eyes and a delicate features set in a benevolent and serene expression, her hands clasped and concealed beneath her long flowing robes extending to a cowl, with detailed hair and ornament with a lotus crown, the robe open at her chest revealing a jewel beaded necklace with a lotus, all covered in a cream-white glaze, pooling in the fold of the dress. In very good condition, inside the base two small firing cracks not going through the sculpture, some minor flakes and minor chips to the extremities visible to the necked eyes.
