In order to ensure that the platform could take full advantage of the increased power, the entire suspension was revised, the brakes were increased and the reinforced gearbox became part of the Turbo package. At first, some customers were not satisfied with Porsche's use of a four-speed transmission while the five-speed transmission was available for its younger sister Carrera. The famous 'whale tail' rear spoiler was installed to ventilate more air into the engine and to create more aerodynamic load at the rear of the vehicle. The rear wheels with wider wheel arches were implemented for better tyres and larger section to improve the car's grip and make it more stable. The 930 proved to be very fast but also very demanding to drive and, due to the short wheelbase and rear engine layout, it was often subject to oversteer and turbo-lag. Porsche made its first and most significant modifications to the 930 in 1978, enlarging the engine bore by 2 mm and bringing the total displacement to 3,299 cc and adding an air-to-air intercooler. Cooling the pressurised air, the intercooler contributed to increase the power to 300 hp at 5,500 rpm. The "whale tail" rear spoiler was profiled and raised slightly to make room for the intercooler and became the "tea tray" spoiler. Porsche modified the suspension with new anti-roll bars, and more solid shock absorbers. The brakes were also revised and improved using the technology of the 917.
The car we offer for auction is a beautiful 1983 Porsche 930 3.3 Turbo with 300 hp in its wonderful Mint Green (20A) (matching colour and matching number), with its original chassis, its original equipment engine, its beautiful original and preserved Beige (6FL) extended genuine leather interior, its 16-inch Fuchs rims. It is also equipped with its original documents of the time and all the stickers on the bodywork. Over the course of its life, it has regularly carried out all the scheduled checks at the official Porsche network workshops and the service documents contain all the documented and stamped interventions with the right mileage, as well as the recently produced Porsche Approved 111-point certification (16.09.2019). The bodywork is preserved but in some places needs some minor interventions because of the signs due to pebbles, and the interior is absolutely original and preserved. The engine and all the mechanics of this Porsche Turbo make it a real rare pearl that stands out for its efficiency and precision compared to the other models around. It has never caused problems and it has always been perfectly checked over the years (the last general check was made in September 2019). The brakes and the suspension have been revised, and finally a train of brand new tires has been mounted. All this makes a car in itself already extremely beautiful unique .It has covered only 94,300 km in over 37 years.
