In 1957, in order to cope with the oil crisis, BMC (British Motor Corporation) asked Alec Issigonis to design a modern utility car that was also economical. The goal he set himself was to design a model that was 3-meter long and 1-meter wide, without sacrificing its habitability, which had to comfortably accommodate four people, and the capacity of the trunk. In order to succeed in this, he was forced to find solutions that were revolutionary for the time, such as the 4-cylinder engine, already used for the Austin A35, which was mounted in a transverse front position with the gearbox underneath it, and the traction that became front. To make the whole balanced and elegant, he decided to mount the 10-inch wheels and suspension with rubber elements, which served to dampen the stress transmitted to the bodywork by these exceptionally small wheels. The first model presented with the Austin and Morris brands was the Mini Minor 850. Over the years, the Mini underwent several modifications and the models followed with continuous success.
In the 90s, the Rover came to be the parent company. This modified the Mini, to improve driving safety and follow the new traffic regulations. The bodywork was reinforced and the catalytic converter was fitted. The engine became a 61 hp 1275cc (single point electronic injection after 1992). In 1991, the Rover Mini Cooper was introduced, which could reach a speed of 152 km/h. It was immediately recognisable thanks to its black or white roof, 12-inch 'minilite' rims and adhesive strips on the hood.
The car we offer for auction is a beautiful Rover Mini Cooper Mk6 1300 injection 62 hp British Racing Green with the Diamond White roof and the characteristic white stripes on the front bonnet. The interior is in leatherette and black fabric with red trim, the radio is original and original equipment (no holes on the panels or other surfaces for the audio speakers), the mats are original John Cooper line. The car is equipped with all its original documents correctly filled in. The plate has been replaced due to deterioration of the original license plate (as reported on the booklet), and it has its original set of tools. The bodywork is in amazing condition, there isn't even a hint of rust, only a few micro interventions have been done to restore the colour (for small marks caused by road stones). It is provided with its original rims with the 4.5 channel with 145 rubber, the exhaust has been replaced with a de cat with single terminal to ensure more brilliant performance and finally yet importantly, it has just been serviced, as reported on the invoice
