Nata nel 1971 come evoluzione della 1750, la 2000 rappresentava l'evoluzione ultima delle classiche berline Alfa Romeo derivate dalla Giulia, introdotta 9 anni prima e ancora apprezzatissima dal pubblico. La potenza di 132 cavalli, i freni a disco e l'ottima tenuta di strada, rendevano la 2000 una berlina capace di dare del filo da torcere ad auto di categoria superiore. Disponibile con optional come il differenziale posteriore autobloccante a lamelle e il cambio automatico, era un concentrato di sportività fruibile nell'uso quotidiano. Prodotta anche in versione americana che era caratterizzata dell'iniezione Spica, fu un successo commerciale: nel 1976, anno del suo ritiro dal mercato, la 2000 fu prodotta in 89.840 esemplari.

Born in 1971 as an evolution of the 1750s, the 2000 was the latest evolution of the classic Alfa Romeo saloons derived from the Giulia, introduced 9 years earlier and still very much appreciated by the public. The 132 horsepower, disc brakes and excellent road-holding made the 2000 a tough competitor for higher-end cars. Available with optional extras such as a self-locking rear siphon differential and automatic transmission, it was a concentrate of sportiness that could be driven every day. Also produced in the American version, equipped with Spica injection, it was a success both in Europe and America: in 1976, the year of its withdrawal from the market, the 2000 was produced in 89,840 units.
