Otto Preminger’s River of No Return is a 1954 western film starring Marilyn Monroe as Kay and Robert Mitchum as Matt Calder. The Austrian director’s only venture into the West, it is remembered as a classic of the genre for its acute reading of the characters, the exploration of the female character (one of Monroe’s most successful, capable of being both the most sensational femme fatale and the girl next door who strikes you with her candid simplicity), the grandiose sense of landscape with the splendid use of Cinemascope that highlights the exteriors shot in Alberta, Canada, in the majestic scenery of Banff and Jasper National Park. A large poster by Giorgio Tempesti for the first Italian edition will be on sale with an estimate of €1.900 – €2.500.
