Old Masters Paintings

In 2018, the department of Old Master Pantings confirmed its prominent role among the market leaders with a total of 3,749,361 euros, a percentage of items sold per lot amounting to 75.4% and in terms of value to 185.3%. The most interesting results were obtained by a series of eight Flemish paintings from the Ferrari collection, sold for 585,000 euros. Among these, a Paesaggio con villaggio rurale e castello (Landscape with rural village and castle) by Jan Brueghel the Younger (Antwerp 1601 – 1678) was sold for 200,000 euros, while Paesaggio con castello (Landscape with castle) by Anton Mirou (Antwerp about 1570 – after 1661) reached 137,500 euros. A San Luca by a painter of the seventeenth-eighteenth century, close to Giovanni Battista Gaulli, Baciccio (Genoa 1639 – 1709), was sold for 112,500 euros. A refined painting by the Neapolitan Paolo De Matteis (Piano Vetrale 1662 – Naples 1728) also stood out: it depicts La Fusione di Salmace ed Ermafrodito (The Fusion of Salmacis and Hermaphrodite), made around 1690-1700, and was sold for 93,850 euros.
