For Mario Masenza the jewel is a work of art

In the post-war Rome was born a completely original creative project, whose aim is to encourage famous artists to work in the rare field of goldsmith. Thanks to the passion of Mario Masenza, followed in the 60s by the Fumanti brothers (Danilo and Massimo)the great Italian artists are entrusted with the realization of precious jewels. These great artists of the twentieth century have enjoyed a total creative freedom to express themselves in the field of precious jewelry. Coming from a private Roman collection will be hesitated ten lots (lots 40-49), among which stand out a rigid bracelet in gold and diamonds for “Steaming Rome” 1972 signed Capogrossi (lot 48, estimated 6,000 – 8,000 euros) and the same Roman artist a brooch in white gold and diamonds with abstract motif (lot 49, estimated 8,000 – 12,000).

Giuseppe Capogrossi (Rome 1900 – 1972) between 1927 and 1933 Capogrossi made repeated stays in Paris where he supported a figurative and tonal painting linked to Italian classical sources. From the early 1940s he began a transformation of his pictorial research: the color lights up in the ranges of red, purple and orange, and the brush stroke comes to life.
With the gradual abandonment of figuration, after a short period of neo-cubist experiences (1947-1949), he arrived at a rigorous and personal abstract art characterized by a single sign-form that, joining in infinite variations, manages to build the space of the image, symbolic representation of an internal spatial organization.
