The Department of Modern and Contemporary Art enjoyed a very successful sale on May 25th 2017. It took place, as tradition now dictates, in Milan in the Sala Carroponte Rooms of Open Care Frigoriferi Milanesi Building. For the first time, the sale realised more than a million euro (1,004,781) with a percentage of 51.6% sold per lot and 80% in terms of value.
A large painting by Piero Dorazio from 1977 measuring 190 x 210 cm entitled Giallino was sold for 173,600 euro, whilst a work by Bruno Munari, Negativo-Positivo from 1951, from the Milanese collection of Arturo Schwartz was sold for 47,120 euro. A work by Herman Nitsch, one of the great protagonists of Viennese Actionism – of great chromatic and emotional impact – , entitled, Pittura-azione N° 0/0, dated 1984, reached a hammer price of 43,400 euro.
