FRANCO ALBINI TRA RIGORE E FANTASIA

Franco Alnini’s works – whether architecture, interiors or design items – manage to combine rigour and poetic creativity with rooted coherence and passion, so much so that theory is transformed into a moral attitude.
Since the very beginning in Gio Ponti and Emilio Lancia’s atelier in 1929, with whom he worked for three years, he looked for his own signature style that, initially, was inspired by Nineteenth century art. However, meeting Edoardo Persico and getting in touch with “Casabella”‘s editors marked a turning point and his evolution towards rationalism.
His approach as both man and designer is always acute and ironic. His refined and rarefied style celebrates the beauty of mechanics with astonishing fittings that sublimate the practical content in the metaphysics of daring still lives, where objects are the pieces of an imaginary mosaic where industry becomes art freed from its purpose. His works, which go from building to design, from fittings to urbanism, are eternally essential.
The next Design auction of June 14th-15th will present three objects that represent at best his production: the rocking chair from 1954-55, the six “Luisa” chairs made in the same period (the model will win the award “Compasso d’Oro” in 1955) and the bookcase LB7 with pillars fixed to the ground and five sections of 1956. All the above-mentioned items were produced for the Poggi, Pavia.
