Coins & Medals

The first half of 2018 recorded an excellent result for the recently created department of Coins and Medals. During the auction that took place on 16 May, this department totalled 273,259 euro, with a percentage of lots sold amounting to 51.9% and of lots in terms of value amounting to 88.4%. A 50-cent silver coin, 1861, bearing the coat of arms of Victor Emmanuel’s Kingdom of Italy, was sold for 16,800 euro. A 100-lire gold coin, 1891, Kingdom of Italy, Umberto I, was sold for 14,475 euro and a coin with the same value, 1883, went under the hammer for 10,200 euro. As for medals, a silver medal belonging to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, under Leopold II, general council of 1848, was sold for 5,760. The first minted coin of the medal of The Thousand, 1860, Municipality of Palermo, went under the hammer for 3,120 euro.
