Jewels & Watches

In 2017, the Department of Jewellery and Watches reaffirmed and increased its success with collectors as shown by the percentage of lots sold of 9.1% and of lots sold in terms of value of 93.6%. The first semester was characterised by the platinum ring with diamonds and a 3.98-carat Burmese ruby, made by Cusi probably in 1960, which went under the hammer for 136,400 euro. The second semester, on the other hand, was dominated by a demi-parure set consisting in a gold necklace and bracelet with 10.00-carat emeralds and brilliant-cut and baguette diamonds for an estimated weight of 100.00 carats, sold for 68,200 euro, followed by a set of gold and diamond earrings, sold for 55,800 euro, and by a platinum necklace by Chaumet probably from 1950, sold for 47,120 euro.
Also worthy of note is a gold ring with 8.58-carat diamonds and a necklace with gold, chalcedony and coral ring by Van Cleef & Arpels, dating back to the 1970’s, both sold for 39,680 euro. Among the watches in the auction, an important result was achieved by a Rolex Chrono, steel, ref. 4048, probably from 1940, Oyster steel case, n. 206277, by Rolex Oyster Chronographe Antimagnetique, sold for 24,800 euro. It is the first Oyster with the addition of a third hour counter, the Barilotto, which name reflects the unusual round, almost curved, shape of the chronograph pusher.
