Modern and Contemporary Art

In the two Milanese auctions held in 2017, the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art obtained an excellent result, thus continuing its upward trend. The sale of both auctions realised more than a million euro with a percentage of 48.5% of lots sold and 82.9% of lots sold in terms of value.
World record for Nuvolo (stage name of Giorgio Ascani) with Cucito a macchina (“Machine-sewn”), a work of 1960 made with painted patches of hemp sewn together, sold in November’s auction for 105,400 euro (auction rights included). The protagonist of the auction held in May was Giallino (“Yellow”) – a large canvas made in 1977 by Piero Dorazio – sold for 173,600 euro. Two works are still worth mentioning: Testa di cavallo (“Horse’s head”) by Giorgio de Chirico, 1960, which reached 59,520 euro and Zerstrahlung von blau, Max Bill’s iconic work of 1972-74. Nero (“Black”), a vynil gouache everted canvas of 1973 by Agostino Bonalumi, which went under the hammer for 49,600 euro.
