Gio Ponti shaping ideas

Musée des Arts Décoratifs Parigi

The uniqueness of Gio Ponti (Milan 1891 – 1979) lies in his style and ability to cross the useful and the enjoyable. Gio Ponti is always ready to challenge himself, combining design with practical implementation and relying on the best manufacturing groups, the hands that execute his ideas. Between reality, project, and new solutions and expressions, Ponti understands and makes designers, craftsmen and industries understand the importance of quality and formal renewal, thus becoming a catalyst for top quality artists such as Ginori, Labirinto, Chiesa, Venini and others, never neglecting, however, the local or artisan production. Ponti is both Italian and universal, simple and sober, pure and essential, unique and reproducible. He is convinced that “drawing for the industry helps the very faculties of our mind and our hands. Directing a production, in fact, forces it to a severity and a rigour that are missing, alas, in the so-called artistic production.”
The research path of this master of 20th-century Italian architecture and design will be illustrated for the first time in France at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in the exhibition “Tutto Ponti, Gio Ponti archi-designer” from 19 October 2018 to 10 February 2019.
