CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS BETWEEN SPACE AND REMEMBRANCE

Since the Seventies, Jannis Kounellis, a Greek artist yet Roman by adoption (he died in Rome on February 16th 2017) promoted the inclusion of space in his work. He has been one of the main representatives of Arte Povera and, above all, an avant-gardist, an artist who kept investigating his own expressive language. In his case, it was populated by iron beams and coal bags, human beings, the products of men’s work, natural elements and daily life objects. In his works, the fortuitous trends of life lead to a research aimed at “going beyond the canvas to be able to establish a dialogue with space”, according to his own definition.

The next auction that will be held in Milan will present a work dated 2015 in steel sheet and jute fabric that tangibly represents the endless renovation and evolution of time.

The meditative dimension of painting is an essential trait of Serge Poliakoff’s artistic production. The artist from Moscow exploits the abstraction of colours to carry out his original and visionary research. In his gouache on paper dated 1958-59 (Composizione astratta – Abstarct composition), space is created through sections of intense tonal colours. Colour and shape are the tools to capture the memory of feelings.
