19th Century Paintings

In 2016, the Department of Nineteenth-Century Paintings witnessed a considerable 41.1% increase in sales, with 46% of lots sold and 76.8% of lots sold in terms of value. A painting from 1903 by the Ligurian painter, Raffaele Giannetti, The Arrival in the Lagoon of Venice (“L’arrivo in laguna a Venezia”) was sold for 37,200 euro, whilst an intimate indoor scene by Girolamo Induno, entitled The Reading (“La lettura”), reached the figure of 27,860 euro. Further successes included the Biedermeier re-elaboration of Diana’s Rest by Frederich von Amerling, one of the most celebrated portrait painters of the aristocracy in Vienna – selling for 27,280 euro – and, lastly, the beautiful view of Genoa, the Lantern and the Port from the Sea (“Genova, la Lanterna e il porto dal mare”) by the painter and set designer from Lugano, Carlo Bossoli, that left the auction room at 27,280 euro.
