EIGHTEEN YEARS IN MONTE CARLO

by Guido Wannenes

This September, our company will turn eighteen years old, an important and even more significant goal because the enthusiasm, the passion and the energy that have always characterised us have never failed. On the contrary, they have grown along with the goals we have set ourselves.
The desire for new horizons and new challenges have allowed us to start this 2018 with an important project: the opening of Wannenes’s headquarters in Monaco. Here, on July 13th and 14th, we will organise an auction of Classic & Sports Cars as well as an auction of Jewellery and Watches, in partnership with Art Contact.
Not only new headquarters but also a new department to which we have dedicated our cover story. Starting from two iconic lots in the catalogue – the Lamborghini Murciélago and the legendary Fiat Zero – this department offers an interesting overview of a market that is rapidly growing.
According to Alessandro Secciani, art lovers should keep an eye on the S&P 500, the most important benchmark for all the markets of the world. On the other hand, Giuseppe Calabi analyses the level of Italian patronage in the light of Art Bonus.
Roberta Olcese introduces David Nahmad, one of the most important international contemporary art dealers. Giorgio Scanu and Nancy Olnick tell the story of Magazzino Italian Art. Starting from an asterisk, Tomaso Montanari explains why the purchase of a work of art is always an act of faith and therefore, quoting Pascal, a bet.
The previews range from Bucellati’s silverware to the group of the Malvica manufacture, from Clemente Ferrari’s collections to the coins of the Kingdom of Italy. But that’s not all, designer jewellery, rare carpets, a rediscovered masterpiece by Raffaello Sorbi, modern art by Kounellis and Poliakoff, oriental symbols and Franco Albini’s rocking deckchair.
A true kaleidoscope of art and taste whose highlights will be on display to inaugurate our new headquarters in Monaco during the ART WEEK, the main event of Monaco’s spring season, which will take place from the 26th to the 29th of April.
Finally, we are pleased to welcome to our company Giorgio Calligaris, who will be in charge of the Classic & Sports Cars catalogues that we will produce in partnership with Art Contact. Federica Della Rocca, new associate for Great Britain and Cecilia Brunner Muratti, new associate for Florence. We are committed to complementing our international horizons with a solid Italian base.
