Rolex Perpetual. Immortal time

by Giacomo Cora

In the prestigious history of the Rolex brand, the Perpetual Day Date presented in 1956 is an iconic and much loved series by collectors who see it as a classic with timeless appeal. The Day Date was the first automatic, water-resistant wrist chronometer that indicated the date and day of the week, thus immediately positioning itself for price and elegance at the Datejust, the top of the range. The simultaneous presence of the date and day allowed it to compete with the most prestigious maisons, boasting the water resistance of 50 metres guaranteed by the famous Oyster case.

The next Monte Carlo watch auction on 8th December 2020 will present two models of great appeal for the lovers of this immortal model, such as the 1979 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date (Ref. 1503) with a yellow gold case, 36 millimetre diametre with a white dial and a very rare Oyster riveted yellow gold strap, reference 7205, with end links 57, and a 1986 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day Date (Ref. 18038), also with an 18 Ct yellow gold case and 36 millimetre diameter with leather strap, and a rare black dial with gold graphics.
