Modern and Contemporary Art

by Guido Vitali

Works from the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art caught the interest of the Italian and international markets in 2015 since they reflected the iconic status achieved by the artist’s poetic and expressive world – with sales that were able to justify and highlight – in economic terms – the various creative phases of the artist. Two highly intense examples were: a pastel, pencil, charcoal and wax on paper by Christo from 1981, one of the major representatives of Land Art with his The Mastaba of Abu Dhabi (Project for United Arab Emirates), selling for 136,400, and a work from 1971 by Carol Rama – who died recently – entitled La guerra è astratta (“War is Abstract”) that was made up of an air chamber, tyres and copper on canvas, selling for 80,600 euro and a record for the artist.
