In 2017, the Department of Decorative Arts and Twentieth-Century Design confirmed the growing interest of both Italian and international collectors, totalling a percentage of lots sold of 69.2 % and lots sold in terms of value of 157.2%.
The top lot of the year was a rare cupboard by Ettore Sottass made for Poltronova in the 1950’s in rosewood and cast bronze, sold after numerous bids for 105,400 euro. A pair of armchairs by Franco Albini (the Fiorenza model from the 1940’s) in wood, metal and brass reached 99,200 euro and a mirror by Max Ingrand, mod. 2045, for Fontana dell’Arte from the 1960’s in polished wood, mirrored crystal gem and nickel-plated brass, which went under the hammer for 49,600 euro. An original pair of armchairs by Ico Parisi, mod. 839, made for Cassina in 1935, in bentwood and padded fabric was sold for 47,120 euro whilst a backlit mirror mod. 1657 made by Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte in the 1960’s, in carved mirrored cut-glass, reached 32,240 euro. A floor lamp by Pietro Chiesa, model 1098, for Fontana Arte from the 1940’s, in painted brass, went under the hammer for 24, 510. An interesting result was achieved by a ceiling lamp by Angelo Lelii from the 1950’s for Arredoluce, in brass and opaline glass, sold for 22,320 euro.
As for Stile Italiano, the top lot is a set of stools with coffee table from the 1960’s in wood and painted metal, sold for 4,340 euro, followed by a hanging lamp by Isamu Noguchi for Akari, from the 1950’s, in mulberry paper, sold for 3,968 euro. Finally, an Italian manufacture hanging lamp from the 1950’s, in painted aluminium and brass, which was sold for 3,720.
