by Andrea Schito

The first semester in 2016 for the Department of Design was both dynamic as well as in a state of constant flux and evolution. There was an increase of 27.5% compared to 2015 which had already been a highly positive year.
The semester produced two auction catalogues – Design and Italian Style – which both made a total of 1,092,022 Euro. For the Design sale the total was 929,487 Euro with a percentage of lots sold of 67.7% and lots sold by value of 147.1%. The highlight of the sale was a pair of armchairs by Gio Ponti for Altamira from 1954, in wood and jute that sold for 55,800 Euro. The lots under the hammer in the catalogue dedicated to Italian Style made a total of 173,620 Euro, with 63% of lots sold and 115% of lots sold by value. The top lot was an Italian ceiling lamp in brass, polished aluminium and opaline glass which went under the hammer for 6,200 Euro.
