Augusto Bozzi e Sergio Saporiti Modern by Vocation

Essential, innovative and experimental: the name of Augusto Bozzi (1924-1982) is strictly linked to the Saporiti company in Lombardy, northern Italy, since it was for that very company that signor Bozzi designed chairs and armchairs towards the end of the 1940’s.
Sergio Saporiti (1928-2014), who founded the company in 1945, wanted to work right from the very beginning with architects and designers that were able to make products in which simplicity would be combined with innovation in the use of avantgarde materials in the sector of furniture and furnishings: Augusto Bozzi was the first to collaborate with the young signor Saporiti for the company’s foreign markets (above all Switzerland, Germany and France). They formed avantgarde ideas on an international level in the field of design both from the point of view of design planning but also and above all from the choice of the materials themselves and the finish of the details. Indeed, it was Rosselli, who with his father-in-law Gio Ponti and the engineer, Fornaroli, who would create one of the most important design studios in the history of Italian design. He became the real Art Decorator of Saporiti and was a decisive presence for the evolution of the company on an international level.
Among the most famous and imitated chairs created by Augusto Bozzi is the “Ariston”, from 1957. Yet, even ten years or so previously, with his “Major Chair”, he had commenced implying a certain refined and wholly Italian style in his products that had been, until that very moment, under the influence of more northern, Scandinavian styles.
A pair of Golden model armchairs in the Design auction on June 16th are from the 1950’s. They are in polished metal, rubber, brass and padded upholstery. Lastly, from the same decade hails an Etere Minor model armchair.
