Revised edition of what is considered the first great repertory of madrigals in print. The work is composed as follows: 364 madrigals to which are added 24 ballads, two sonnets, and, under the title 'Al serenissimo Carlo Quinto Imperatore,' thirty-four stanzas calling on Charles to take up arms against the Turks. After the index is a letter from Doni praising the madrigals, followed by six sonnets by various literary friends in praise of the author.
