A famous illustrated edition of Orlando Furioso illustrated with drawings by Pietro Novelli executed in intaglio by some of the best known Venetian engravers of the 18th century. The edition is also appreciated for its rich critical apparatus, with indexes of names and places at the end of the fourth volume.
4 volumes, 4to, (280 x 210mm). 1 illustrated frontispiece, 1 full-page portrait of the author, 56 engraved plates (5 for the life, 46 for Orlando and 5 for the additional cantos) enclosed within rococo frames from designs by Pietro Novelli and engraved by Zuliani, Fambrini, Leonardis, Malosso and Baratti; each volume with engraved title-page, headpieces, headpieces, tail-pieces (volumes 2 to 4 with a waterstain in the lower margin that extends variably to the text and the plates). Contemporary vellum binding with titles to spine, speckled edges (small chippings). (4)
