ACCADEMICI GELATI. Ricreationi amorose de gli Academici Gelati di Bologna [WITH:] Psafone trattato d'amore del medesimo Caliginoso Gelato Melchiorre Zoppio. Bologna: Giovanni Rossi, 1590.
First, scarce collection of love poems of the Accademia dei Gelati, accompanied by the mottos of the academicians (no passage at auction, RBH). Founded in 1588 in Bologna by Melchiorre Zoppio, doctor of philosophy and son of Girolamo, founder of the Accademia dei Catenati in Macerata, the Accademia dei Gelati began as a literary congress in Zoppio's house on Strada Maggiore. The initiative chose as its arms a forest of frozen trees and the Virgilian motto 'Nec longum tempus,' a symbol of rebirth. The first patron was Cardinal Maffeo Barberini, later Pope Urban VIII.
