First and only edition of Ruscelli's Lezione sopra un sonnetto di Giambattista d'Azzia, dedicated to Maria d'Aragona (1503-1568), whose beauty is celebrated at the end of the volume by sonnets by Tansillo, Muzio, Ammirato, Veniero, Nifo and Aretino, which accompany the engraved portrait on 74 leaves. Ruscelli uses the sonnet as a pretext to write a Platonic essay on the perfection of women and beauty, created by God as a path to spiritual elevation.
