[MUSSOLINI, Benito] Collection of 480 photographs depicting the Duce attending official events, March ; April 1931.
Extensive collection of over 400 photographs documenting 14 separate events, all attended by Benito Mussolini, the protagonist of most of the shots, between the end of March and the end of April 1931. Many prominent personalities were portrayed, including high-ranking hierarchs such as Balbo, De Bono, Federzoni and Grandi, members of the royal family such as Vittorio Amedeo d'Aosta, military personnel and representatives of the industrial upper middle class. Among the most significant events are a naval review in Gaeta with Balbo on 16 April, the Fifth Fascist conscription in Piazza di Siena on 21 April, and the 'radio rally' on the Ostia highway on 28 April, where Mussolini appears several times driving an Alfa Romeo. Several shots from the collection can be found in the archives of the Istituto Luce, suggesting that the collection may have belonged to the private collection of an Institute photographer.
