[ILLUSTRATED] Lot of 5 works.16th-17th century.
An interesting lot comprising: the first edition of the popular illustrated Life of St Ignatius, published in the year of his beatification (1609) and partly illustrated by Rubens- the illustrated edition of the Life of St John of Nepomuk, patron saint of Bohemia- and three works, unfortunately incomplete: Albert's Rosary, enriched with sacred woodcuts of popular taste- a work by Cavalieri devoted to portraits of European emperors- and an elegant devotional book printed in intaglio and illustrated by Colin.

Unnumbered title page and portrait of Ignatius of Loiola, 79 engraved plates (browning to first leaves, spotting). Contemporary vellum binding (some wear) Provenance: Italian translations of the Latin captions of the engravings manuscripted on the back of the leaves by a contemporary hand. [IN LOT WITH:] BALBINUS. Vita S. Joannis Nepomuceni sigilli sacramentalis protomartyris.
