Incomplete copy of these three first editions by Montano, a prolific engraver and connoisseur of ancient art. His work, published posthumously by his Roman pupil and architect Giovanni Battista Soria (1581-1651) had a great influence throughout Europe until the 18th century, and was known and appreciated by contemporaries such as Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Pietro da Cortona and Francesco Borromini.
Folio, (395 x 260mm). First work: engraved title page, engraved dedication, Montano's portrait, Soria's portrait, 64 numbered plates (of 66, 57 and 66 are missing, plate 4 with an old trace of restoration). Second work: engraved title page, engraved dedication, portrait of Montano, portrait of Soria, 38 numbered plates (of 40, plates 31 and 33 are missing, plate 32 repeated). Third work: 26 numbered plates including engraved title page, engraved dedication, portrait of Montana, portrait of Soria, and 22 plates numbered 5-27 (missing plate 21 and plate 28) Some spotting and foxing but overall in wide margins and in good condition. 20th century binding in half vellum with title to spine labels.
