Reglè copy of the first edition of this scarce book of emblems, of which little is known about the artist's life. The author was born around 1580 and lived as an engraver and bookseller in Paris, where he died at the end of 1649.
8vo, (148 x 94 mm). 118 engraved emblems for the first work and 18 for the second, many signed by Messager, reglè copy (light occasional spotting). Contemporary leather binding, red edges. Provenance: 'di Paolo Santini' antique signature on the endpapers. (1)
