First Italian edition of Ptolemy's Geography, edited by Giovanni Antonio Magini and translated by Leonardo Cernoti. It includes 63 maps (27 of the ancient world and 36 of the modern world), already published in the Latin edition of 1596, except for four small-format world maps specially made by Girolamo Porro on the inspiration of Valgrisi's edition of 1561, while the map of the world outside the text depicted in double hemisphere is a reduction by Rumold Mercator. This edition incorporates the most important geographical discoveries of the 16th century into Ptolemy's Geography, the most influential cartographic account of antiquity and a reference for Renaissance cartographers.

D1 and D2 as in SBN variant B, copper-engraved allegorical vignettes to title pages, numerous diagrams, woodcut vignettes, initials and tail-pieces (title page and first few leaves with spotting, light foxing and occasional spotting in the text). Sober 20th century vellum binding with handwritten title to spine. (1)
