[NAUTICAL] Lot of 3 works.
Lot comprising a copy in excellent internal condition of Formaleoni's treatise analysing a Venetian portolan chart of 1436 showing the Antilles; the first French edition of Euler's work on naval engineering; and the first edition of the text by the astronomer Jean-Sylvain Bailly, mayor of Paris and victim of the Terror. In the latter work, addressing Voltaire, Bailly argues for the existence of an ancient Asian civilisation, a 'peuple perdu' that would have reached advanced levels in the sciences and the arts, identifying it with the myth of Atlantis described in the Platonic dialogues.
