Lot of two monumental French translations of Plutarch by Jacques Amyot (1513-1593). It was from his version of the parallel lives 'Les Hommes illustres' that Sir Thomas North derived the English version that served Shakespeare as the historical and documentary basis for his Roman tragedies.
