NESTOR, DIONYSIUS (16th century). Vocabolarius. Venice: Guglielmo Anima Mia, 1488.
Large-margin, annotated copy of this scarce second edition of the Latin dictionary compiled by the Novarese Franciscan friar Nestor. The arrangement of the text curiously proceeds from right to left, with the words in alphabetical order on the right margin with their definition, etymology and examples in the main body of the text while the names of the cited authors are inserted in the left margin. The first edition was published in Milan in 1483 by Leonardus Pachel and Uldericus Scinzenzeler. This lexicon became so popular that, by 1507, eight editions had already been produced.
Folio, (310 x 215mm). Woodcut initials, uncut ( z5 and z6 incorrectly bound after a4, some occasional spotting and spotting otherwise good condition). 20th century mute vellum binding. Provenance: several old marginal notes. (1)
